Beyond Haunted: Ghost Kit
Ghost Kit Privacy Policy
Last updated 28 July 2026.
Ghost Kit (“Beyond Haunted: Ghost Kit”) is an iPhone app published by
Josh Nason. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
It is short, because the app does very little with it.
The summary
Ghost Kit does not collect your data. There is no account, no
server, no analytics, and no advertising. Everything you record stays
on your iPhone. Nothing you create in the app is sent to us, because there is
nowhere for it to be sent.
What the app stores, and where
All of the following is written to the app's own private storage on your
iPhone and never leaves it:
- EVP recordings — audio you record, plus the sensor
readings captured alongside it.
- SLS recordings — video with sound, the sensor
readings, and the shapes the camera detected.
- Field notes and photos you write or attach.
- Spirit box session logs — the words the app spoke,
with the times they were spoken.
- Places — rooms you have named, and the sensor
readings recorded there.
- Your settings, including the detection threshold and
whether location tagging is switched on.
Because this content lives in the app's documents folder, it is included in
your iPhone's own iCloud or computer backup if you have backups enabled. That
backup is between you and Apple. We have no access to it.
Deleting the app removes all of it from your device permanently.
Permissions the app asks for
Each of these is used only for the feature described, and everything is
processed on your device.
- Microphone — recording EVP sessions, and sound on
SLS video. Audio is written to your device and analysed there.
- Camera — the SLS screen, which looks for human
shapes in the live camera feed, and attaching photos to field notes. The
shape detection runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device
Vision framework. No image is ever uploaded.
- Motion and fitness — used only to notice when you
are walking, cycling or travelling in a vehicle, so the app can hide its
screen and tell you to look up. This is a safety feature.
- Photo library — only when you choose to attach an
existing photo to a note, or save a note photo back to your library.
- Location — optional, and off unless you
turn it on. See below.
You can refuse or withdraw any of these in the iOS Settings app at any time.
The features that depend on them stop working; nothing else is affected.
Location, if you turn it on
Location tagging is disabled by default. If you enable it in the app's
settings, Ghost Kit records where you were when you made a recording, so that a
session still means something months later.
Things worth knowing:
- The location is stored on your device with that recording. It is not
transmitted to us.
- It is never used to point you anywhere. Ghost Kit does not display a
direction or a distance to anything, by design, and location is only ever
read back on a finished recording.
- To turn a coordinate into a readable place name, the app asks Apple's
geocoding service, which means that coordinate is sent to Apple. This is
Apple's own system service and is covered by
Apple's privacy policy.
We do not receive it.
- When you share a recording, only the place name is included,
never the coordinates. This is deliberate, so sharing a session
you recorded at home does not reveal your address.
Links to this website
The app's Archive links to articles on beyondhaunted.com, which open in an
in-app browser. When you open one you are visiting this website, and this
website's own terms and privacy practices apply to that visit in the ordinary
way, the same as if you had typed the address yourself.
Children
Ghost Kit is rated 12+ and is not directed at children under 13. It collects
no personal information from anyone, including children. The app shows a safety
notice before first use that asks anyone under 13 to check with a parent.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a
